Taiwanese high quality rice selling well due to creative promotions04/08/2009 (CNA) Taipei, April 8 (CNA) A Council of Agriculture agency said Wednesday it plans to continue to promote the sales of Taiwanese rice of excellent strains and tasty flavors, after a creative promotional campaign last year resulted in success.Last year, the council's Agriculture and Food Agency promoted the rice, produced by farmers from 10 townships around the country, by packing them as wedding gifts for guests. More than 30,000 packages of the rice marketed as wedding gifts, and priced from NT$400 to NT$600 each have been sold over the past year, said Jao Mei-chu, a section chief with the agency's Central Region Branch. To step up their marketing efforts, the branch has recently put forth rice gift packages to celebrate the birth of new born babies and rice packages as all-purpose gifts, said Jao. All the wedding, birth, all-purpose rice gift packages are prepared by rice farmers whose produce carries the Certification of National Standards (CNS) mark and are marketed by local farmers' associations, Jao added.
